A New Castle man has been charged in a December fatal traffic crash. 27-year-old Jeremy Prater is charged with causing a death while driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Killed in the crash was 23-year-old Ashley Sloan of Lewisville. Tests indicated Prater had both marijuana and cocaine in his blood at the time of the fatal crash. His trial will be in November.

A soldier from Wells County has been killed in a firefight in Iraq. 26-year old Phillip Jenkins of Decatur was part of a security operation at an Iraqi army base when an Iraqi soldier opened fire on the Americans. Jenkins and another soldier were killed, and several others were wounded.
An Anderson woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Labor Day. 45-year old Darla DeBord has been charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
