Elwood Mayor Merrill Taylor and Marsh Supermarket administrators cermoniously cut a ribbon for the town’s newly renovated store yesterday. Frank Lazaran, chairman, CEO and president of Marsh Supermarkets, said the renovation was a sign that Marsh was “rededicating” itself to Elwood. Marsh Supermarkets invested more than $500,000 into the Elwood store. The company is in the process of renaming and renovating many of its 103 stores throughout the state to fit the Marsh Hometown Market template. Marsh had a reputation for its produce and perishables, Lazaran said, and LoBill Foods had competitive prices. The company combined the two concepts into a single store.

After a month of protests, walkouts and bitter debate, Indiana will become the 23rd right-to-work state. The Senate gave final approval to right-to-work 28-22, unchanged from the first vote on the bill last month. Governor Daniels signed the bill into law about three hours after the senate vote.
A man was killed Wednesday night in a one-vehicle accident along Ind. 3 in southern Delaware County.
