A Muncie woman who was part of that arson for hire scheme has been sentenced to four years in prison. Neeka Rae Burtley plead guilty to the charges. She was accused of burning a home on Burlington Drive. Her accomplice was Vanessa Allen Hatcher, who is still awaiting sentencing. Burtley also must pay $23,000 to State Farm Insurance for the damages caused.

A soldier from Wells County has been killed in a firefight in Iraq. 26-year old Phillip Jenkins of Decatur was part of a security operation at an Iraqi army base when an Iraqi soldier opened fire on the Americans. Jenkins and another soldier were killed, and several others were wounded.
An Anderson woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Labor Day. 45-year old Darla DeBord has been charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
