New Castle Sink Hole Emergency Over

21.08.08

The city of New Castle is no longer under a state of emergency. About two months after Mayor Jim Small declared an emergency because of 16 sinkholes in the city, the board of works rescinded the proclamation on Monday, saying the situation is under control.  Bobby York, assistant superintendent of New Castle Water Pollution Control, said there are 11 sinkholes left in the city. He said crews will have them corrected soon.
The remaining sinkholes are non-threatening to the public.
