Delaware County Council Cuts $3.5 Million from Budget

Delaware County Council members cut more than $3.5 million from a proposed $34 million budget yesterday. The recent requests for new staff members for the Delaware County Sheriff’s department were all denied. Also rejected for now was more than $800,000 that Delaware County Sheriff George Sheridan, Jr. requested for the department’s pension fund.

SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD CHARGES
03.09.10A New Castle woman has been arrested on three charges of Social Security fraud. 49-year old Viola Whalen is accused of receiving benefit payments for one of her children whose father had died.
