Muncie Fire Units were called to BSU’s LaFollette Halls about 3:45 a.m. this morning  There was a report of smoke in the building.   Initial reports were that the smoke was coming from a fire in a heater in a basement area.  The smoke spread upward through the building.  The halls in LaFollette complex were evacuated during the fire fighting efforts.  Firefighters had to knock on doors to get students to evacuate their rooms.  Worthen arena was opened so the evacuated students would have shelter and warmth until the fire was controlled and it was safe to return.   The Red Cross also was sent to the scene to provide students with warm drinks during their stay at the arena.   The fire was reported to be “knocked down” about 4:16 a.m.   Students are not expected to be able to return to the dorm complex anytime soon.
