A committee advocating switching Fishers to a city was so impressed with the turnout and discussion at its first public meeting that it has promised to hold more public meetings. More than 30 residents of the state’s eighth-largest community by population attended the meeting Sunday at the Fishers library. Indiana’s unemployment rate for January is 9-point-7 percent, the same as the revised numbers for December. State department of workforce development commissioner Teresa Voors says the rate “appears to be holding relatively stable based on the slowing of job losses.” Indiana continues to have the lowest unemployment rate among neighboring states.
