The Richmond Common Council voted to pass a new sanitary sewer rate increase and an increase in the city’s storm water fee this past Monday Night. The fee will apply to residents who are hooked up to the Richmond Sanitary District, but live outside the city’s corporate limits. The change will affect about 1,400 customers, and is expected to raise about 150,000 dollars a year for repair and maintenance.

Indiana’s unemployment rate for January is 9-point-7 percent, the same as the revised numbers for December. State department of workforce development commissioner Teresa Voors says the rate “appears to be holding relatively stable based on the slowing of job losses.” Indiana continues to have the lowest unemployment rate among neighboring states.
