A Jay County man is set to plead guilty this week in the September 2008 slaying of a Portland man. 21-year-old Roderick Berry of Dunkirk could serve 30 years for robbing and beating Shawn Buckner. Buckner was attacked by berry and four other suspects after they allegedly lured him to an apartment. There, they robbed and beat him, then drove him to a cornfield where he was repeatedly stabbed. two days later, prosecutors say berry and another man moved Buckner‘s remains to a wooded area near Dunkirk – where police found it.

After a month of protests, walkouts and bitter debate, Indiana will become the 23rd right-to-work state. The Senate gave final approval to right-to-work 28-22, unchanged from the first vote on the bill last month. Governor Daniels signed the bill into law about three hours after the senate vote.
A man was killed Wednesday night in a one-vehicle accident along Ind. 3 in southern Delaware County.
