AAA is predicting about 3.3 million more people than last year will be hitting the road for the holidays. To cut down on the number of deaths and injuries this year, Indiana State Troopers along with a 125 local law enforcement agencies, will once again ramp up the “Safe Family Travel Initiative” now through New Year’s Day. That means more patrols and sobriety checkpoints in 33 counties. 11,000 citations were handed out during this initiative on Thanksgiving alone.

Indiana’s unemployment rate for January is 9-point-7 percent, the same as the revised numbers for December. State department of workforce development commissioner Teresa Voors says the rate “appears to be holding relatively stable based on the slowing of job losses.” Indiana continues to have the lowest unemployment rate among neighboring states.
