Crown Equipment, a company that plans to bring about 150 new jobs to New Castle by the end of 2013, is asking the City Council for tax abatements. New Castle Mayor Greg York said Crown’s request was a late addition to the council’s agenda for Tuesday night’s meeting. In October 2011, Crown, an Ohio-based company that manufactures and sells forklifts, announced its plans to begin operating from the former Metaldyne facility on I Avenue. At that time, Crown said it would invest $15 million to renovate the facility.

Muncie police have apprehended the two individuals they believe are responsible for setting at least one of three recent arson fires in the southeast side Industry neighborhood. However, the two alleged arsonists probably won’t do any prison time – They’re both 10 years old. Both youngsters will likely be charged with arson in juvenile court.
