An Anderson police dog was shot Saturday afternoon by a man fleeing police after a bank robbery. The suspect in the robbery was arrested a few hours later and identified by police as 22-year-old Joseph Turner of Anderson.
According to police spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur, police dog Magnum, was taken to VCA Northwood Animal Hospital for surgery and is in recovery. Magnum has been with the Anderson Police Department for a year and a half, and his handler, Matt Jarrett, was with him when he went to surgery. Sandefer says “I want to stress Magnum took a bullet for the officers.”

Staff Relations Manager Barb Cross says she‘s among numerous Red Cross staffers nationwide on the ground and assessing the needs. Cross says she always feels personally blessed to be able to help those who are in trouble.22.05.13
