Senator Richard Lugar will be honored for his work in reducing nuclear weapons. Lugar and former Senator Sam Nunn will be issued the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Service for their creation of the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. The medal is the highest award presented by the Secretary of Defense.
