Man In Custody After Beating Girlfriend

A man who allegedly tied up, choked and beat his girlfriend with a belt is in police custody this morning. 23-year-old Fernando Cruz was arrested and charged with felonies for strangulation, confinement and battery for apparently attacking his 33-year-old girlfriend in his Elwood home. She was transported to an Elwood hospital for treatment of numerous injuries.

Staff Relations Manager Barb Cross says she‘s among numerous Red Cross staffers nationwide on the ground and assessing the needs.
