Authorities say speed was a factor in a violent crash off I-70 yesterday that left one man dead. Indiana State Police believe 58-year-old Charles Wayne Barker was traveling at a high rate of speed when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, over the concrete wall, severed a utility pole, struck the concrete wall of the I-465 ramp and landed on Shadeland Avenue. The accident shut down traffic on the east side for more than two hours.

Contractors moved barrels and barricades along interstate work sites Friday to help accommodate Memorial Weekend traffic. The Indiana Department of Transportation mandated that there be no work in construction zones over the holiday weekend and Indiana State Police will be closely monitoring those sites.
