Heavy snow squalls and frigid temperatures are being blamed for a 40 car pileup on westbound Interstate 70 in Hendricks County yesterday. Twelve people had been taken to area hospitals; one was listed in critical condition. Closer to home, emergency personnel responded to a number of slide-offs and accidents in Muncie and surrounding areas. Delaware County dispatch said there had been at least 50 car accidents reported in an hour’s time. In Madison County, there were multiple accidents on I-69, including an incident near Exit 222 involving two semis and a van. Multiple slide-offs were reported across east central Indiana.
