A serious accident in rural Alexandria over the weekend: Friday evening around 6:45, a head-on collision near a northeast intersection. The crash trapped a 17-year-old Alexandria girl, who was transported from the scene by a medical helicopter. Multiple passengers and the driver of the other vehicle was also injured and transported. Police believe distracted driving led to the accident and say occupants in one vehicle were not wearing seat belts.

Contractors moved barrels and barricades along interstate work sites Friday to help accommodate Memorial Weekend traffic. The Indiana Department of Transportation mandated that there be no work in construction zones over the holiday weekend and Indiana State Police will be closely monitoring those sites.
