The Elwood Community Schools board voted in favor of the balanced calendar at a special meeting Monday night. With the change, school in Elwood will begin two weeks earlier and both the fall and spring will have two-week breaks, along with the traditional two-week break in the winter. Elwood became the fourth, and possibly final, school district out of five in the county to adopt some form of balanced calendar. Alexandria was the first and began with the balanced calendar this year. Frankton-Lapel Superintendent Bobby Fields has said his district likely won’t be making the switch.
