Anderson firefighters doused a small fire in an abandoned shack yesterday afternoon, but neighbors expressed concerns about a perceived trend. No one was hurt in the blaze near the intersection of 29th and Fountain streets, and firefighters had the flames under control within a half hour of arriving. Neighbors say that three dilapidated nearby buildings in the area have had similar fires over the winter and they believe Wednesday’s fire is the latest in a string of arsons in the surrounding area.

Three people were rescued from the fast-moving waters of the White River, after the canoe they were riding in got stuck on an island in the shallow waters. A 10 and 12 year-old, along with their 22-year-old babysitter were rescued thanks to the combined efforts of Muncie and Yorktown-Mount Pleasant and Salem Township fire departments. [...]

A Muncie man was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after police say he was shot multiple times while in the Whitely neighborhood. 34-year-old Tyjuan McCraney suffered three gunshot wounds to his lower leg-area. His injuries were not believed to be immediately life threatening. Witnesses say a fight led to that shooting.
