WATCHED ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS IN THE WORLD. U.S. SOCCER HAS IDENTIFIED LUCAS
OIL STADIUM IN INDIANAPOLIS AND NOTRE DAME STADIUM NEAR SOUTH BEND AS
POSSIBLE VENUES FOR THE WORLD CUP OF SOCCER. THE ORGANIZATION IS PREPARING A
FORMAL BID TO HOST THE GLOBAL EVENT IN 2018 OR 2022. THE TWO INDIANA VENUES
ARE ON A LIST OF 70 POTENTIAL SITES.

INDIANA TOLL ROAD LEASE. HOUSE DEMOCRATS HAVE VOTED TO BREAK OPEN THE
HALF-BILLION-DOLLAR TRUST FUND CREATED BY THE LEASE, AND SPEND HALF OF IT ON
LOCAL ROAD AND STREET WORK AND MASS TRANSIT PROJECTS IN NORTHERN AND CENTRAL

INDIANA’S SHARE OF THE FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY IS FOUR-POINT-THREE-BILLION
DOLLARS. CITIES AND COUNTIES HAVE REQUESTED NEARLY SIX TIMES THAT. THE STATE
HAD HIRED BALL STATE TO SURVEY CITIES AND COUNTIES ABOUT THEIR NEEDS FROM
VARIOUS WEATHER DISASTERS LAST YEAR, WHICH AFFECTED ALL BUT 10 COUNTIES.
WITH THAT PROCESS IN PLACE, THE STATE EXTENDED IT TO ASK FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR
LOCAL STIMULUS PROJECTS. THE RESULT: A DELUGE OF NINE-THOUSAND PROGRAMS
TOTALING 25 BILLION.

ACS closure rumors

Rumor has spread that Anderson Community Schools are going to close a High School in order to meet a budget deficit. ACS Board President Teddy Bohnenkamp quickly dismissed the rumors this past Wednesday. She said that no board member has discussed the closing of any high school, and the superintendent has not recommended it. In order to save 5 million dollars from the 2010 budget, Ebbertt Education Center, Southview Elementary, Robinson Elementary School and South Side Middle School will close. (The Herald Bulletin)

Lotto winners and jackpots

There was no Grand Prize winner in Wednesday’s Hoosier Lotto Drawing, so Saturday’s jackpot will be 6 million dollars. One ticket sold in Washington D.C. matched all six of Wednesday’s Powerball numbers, but a ticket sold in Portage, Indiana matched 5 of the numbers for a 200 thousand dollar win. Holiday World gets “SHARP” Award

Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana is the first theme park in the nation certified by the Safety and Healthy Achievement Recognition Program or “SHARP”. Statewide, the safety program is administered by the Indiana Department of Labor which presented the “INSHARP” award yesterday morning. Holiday World opens for the season on Saturday May 2^nd. Foreclosure Consultants facing lawsuits

5 out of state “Foreclosure Consultants” are facing state lawsuits for not following Indiana law. You Walk Away Foreclosure Relief Agency, Foreclosure Assistance, Homeowner Preservation Group, and American Mitigation Group, failed to post a required 25 thousand dollar state bond. Attorney General Greg Zoeller Says that “it’s the only assurance consumers won’t be left in the lurch if a foreclosure consultant goes out of business or fails to make good on its promises to save your home.” (Press Release/Steve Lindell)

Suspect killed in police action shooting

A drug suspect was shot and killed by an undercover narcotics detective at a Wal-mart parking lot in northwest Indianapolis. Police say the detective fired in self defense when the man appeared to make a threatening move toward him with a handgun. The suspect later died at Methodist Hospital and two others have been taken into custody. No one else was hurt. (Muncie Star Press)

BorgWarner lays off workers ahead of shutdown

158 BorgWarner workers have received layoffs yesterday. This will leave the Muncie plant with 70 people until the shutdown on April 24. The plant had produced transfer cases for the Ford F-150 truck line. This is now the end of auto parts manufacturing at Muncie’s BorgWarner plant, formerly Warner Gear, for the first time since 1901.

Ear biting suspect trial set

43 year old Curtis Alan Cross has been charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, for biting a portion of 31 year old Jeffery Guffey’s ear off. Curtis’s trial had been set yesterday for Aug. 9^th. (Muncie Star Press)
