A bill designed to streamline the financing process for university and
college building projects in the state is headed to the governor’s desk.
The plan would allow the institutions to finance grant and contract
applications loans for the full amount, instead of the current 80 percent.
Supporters say the change could spur job creation and economic development.

A former Miss America is going to get something rocker john Mellencamp
didn’t…a street named for her. Jackson county road 400 east will be named
“Katie Stam road” in honor of Indiana’s first Miss America. A similar idea
to name a road in Seymour for Mellencamp never advanced.

For a limited time Hoosiers looking to improve their job skills can go
online. The Indiana department of workforce development is offering
free online courses through the end of June. Access to the courses is open
to all Indiana residents.

Some Indiana lawmakers believe a recent workplace shooting in portage should lead Governor Daniels to veto a bill allowing most Hoosiers to keep guns
locked in their cars. One day after the house and senate passed the measure,
a 19-year auditor with the Indiana department of workforce development went
to his vehicle, got his semi-automatic shotgun and opened fire on fellow
employees at an administrative office.

discuss potential compromises on bills dealing with unemployment insurance

Muncie Schools will host its Fall 2010 Kindergarten Round-up on three dates this spring. Parents of kindergarteners who need to register their child for the 2010-2011 school year should visit the school site that the child will attend. Registration will take place Wednesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 18, between 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 1 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The child must be 5 years old by August 1, 2010

The Muncie Community Schools Board of School Trustees will meet Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the Wilson Middle School Auditorium. The building will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Because of Spring Break, the Board generally meets once during the month of March, but this month the Board will meet March 16 and 30. Spring Break is March 22-26.

A new company plans to add 250 jobs by 2013, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said Monday. s2f Worldwide, a provider of supply chain and logistics services, plans to establish headquarters and distribution operations in Plainfield. The company plans to invest $10.8 million to lease and equip a 200,000-square-foot distribution center and office building near Indianapolis International Airport. s2f Worldwide plans to offer a wide range of transportation management, warehousing and distribution services.
Two years ago, Central Indiana was ranked the fourth fastest-growing tech hub in the nation thanks to companies like Exacq Technologies of Fishers. That company, a video management systems developer that serves clients in Indianapolis and nationally, today announced it plans to expand its headquarters, creating up to 49 new jobs by 2013.
Carmel Clay Schools officials this week outlined steps to prevent hazing and bullying incidents like the alleged assaults involving the Carmel High School basketball team.
