After a month of protests, walkouts and bitter debate, Indiana will become the 23rd right-to-work state. The Senate gave final approval to right-to-work 28-22, unchanged from the first vote on the bill last month. Governor Daniels signed the bill into law about three hours after the senate vote.

A man was killed Wednesday night in a one-vehicle accident along Ind. 3 in southern Delaware County. The victim — whose name had not been released late Wednesday pending notification of relatives — was pronounced dead at the scene by Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn.
The accident was reported shortly after 8 p.m. just south of the four-lane state highway’s intersection with Delaware County Road 775-S. Authorities believe the car left the southbound lanes of the highway and went into a ditch before hitting one tree, spinning, and then striking a second tree, about 25 feet west of Ind. 3. A woman in the vehicle was conscious after the crash and was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Her condition and name were not available late Wednesday. Investigators were not immediately certain which of the vehicle’s occupants was driving at the time of the accident.

Northbound Interstate 69 in Hamilton County was closed Wednesday afternoon after an apparent suicide. All four northbound lanes were shut down after the incident near State Road 37 and 116th Street. Fishers police said dispatchers started taking calls just after 2 p.m. reporting a woman running in front of vehicles. Police said the woman purposely jumped out in front of a tractor-trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The backup along I-69 stretched for several miles shortly after the incident. The lanes were reopened just before 4:30 p.m.

One of Muncie’s newest and biggest employers has announced a job fair to find local workers. Progress Rail will hold the job fair this Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Horizon Convention Center. Progress will seek workers at hourly pay rates ranging from $12 to $18.50 an hour. Those interested in applying are to bring resumes. Before hiring, applicants will need to pass drug testing, a fitness-for-duty medical review and a background check

If a U.S. District Court judge accepts the terms of a pending plea agreement, Charles “Fred” Ludington will be sentenced to four years in federal prison. The 62-year-old Ludington is accused of violating federal gun regulations, not requiring customers to complete ATF forms and, in one case, selling a gun to an illegal alien. He is scheduled to stand trial on 10 related charges in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis on Feb. 27, but court documents filed in recent weeks reflect that Ludington signed the proposed plea agreement — calling for him to plead guilty to three of the charges — on Jan. 4.

Community Hospital Anderson is planning an expansion to house more surgical rooms and equipment. The addition will be a 6,000-square-foot, two-story building located on the hospital’s 110-acre property. The building will have two surgical rooms as well as much-needed storage space for larger and newer equipment. The building will cost an estimated $3.5 million.

Ball State University students who graduated with student loans in 2010 owed an average of $24,121, which was less than the debts owed by students at many other colleges in Indiana. Nationally, two-thirds of college seniors graduated with loans in 2010, and they carried an average of $25,250 in debt, according to a report published by The Project on Student Debt.

Firefighters on Wednesday night were battling a blaze at a business northeast of Selma.
The fire at Botkin Trophies, 2720 N. Delaware County Road 800-N, was reported shortly after 9 p.m. The first emergency personnel at the scene reported the shop was engulfed in flames.

Chrysler Group is profitable again. The automaker on Wednesday morning reported it had a $183 million profit in 2011. Chrysler noted its profits came after the company repaid $551 million in its outstanding debt to the U.S. and Canadian governments. CEO Sergio Marchionne says he expects 2012 to be a “transition year” as the company continues investing and launching products.
